Is the spirit of Christmas dead?

Merry Christmas, everybody!” That’s what I was going to say. But non-Christians get offended.

Happy Holidays!” was going to be next. But etymologically, “holiday” derives from the old English “Holy Day”, which implies some kind of religion, and then the atheists get upset.

There’s also the “Happy” part, which makes those suffering from depression even more depressed.

Then I thought, how about “Season’s Greetings“? But talk of Seasons conjures up Neopaganism and Gaia theory. And some people just don’t buy into that hippie talk.

I guess I’m left with wishing you all “Friday!”

Except I can’t say that either because of Friday’s Nordic roots. And some people still haven’t gotten over the raping and pillaging by the Vikings at Lindisfarne in 793.

So screw it.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and may God continue to bless the United States of America and her troops.
